The Damned United at Saltergate

Recently I had a tweet from @dalekpete (Peter Whiteley) of the Chesterfield FC Community Trust.  He had put together the following youtube video using TJP images taken behind the scenes of the filming of ‘The Damned United’ at Saltergate.

Thanks Pete for the great video and kind words.

Tina Jenner’s stunning photographs from the filming of the acclaimed feature film in 2008. Three weeks of principal photography took place at Chesterfield FC’s former home of Saltergate.

Saltergate was selected due to its similarity to the Baseball Ground. The interior was used but the terraces and outside of the ground doubled for many other football locations.

Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall and Oscar winner Jim Broadbent appeared from a unit base in a nearby car park. Most of the ground was painted green to match the corporation colours used in Derby in the 1960s and 1970s. This paint, in the main, remained until the Spireites relocated in 2010.

The David Bowie song, “Queen Bitch” was part of the soundtrack.
